We Need Help - SteamDeckHQ

It's hard to believe that 2024 is actually over, but it is officially 2025. Last year was one of the biggest years for me personally, with the birth of my first child and how busy it was for SteamDeckHQ. We covered tons of new games, worked with amazing new people, brought more writers into our fold, and went to new, amazing events that blew our minds. And with 2025, we have a lot of plans for the year, as well as ambition to grow on our social media channels, YouTube, and as a professional outlet, but we can't do it alone.

Last year, many independent outlets like us faced lots of challenges, and it led to a lot of outlets we love coming close to being closed or some actually shutting down. It also hurt a lot of amazing journalists who either lost their jobs from mass layoffs or were encouraged to leave despite their experience and seniority. It's a tough time to be an independent outlet and journalist right now, and as AI continues scraping websites, Google making its search engine much harder to use, and the rising costs of working and expanding with stagnating rates, I wanted to take this moment to ask for your help.

We are lucky to be surviving and kicking like we are in the face of all of these issues for independent outlets, and it doesn't look like these problems will be going away next year. There are a couple of projects we are a part of that look very promising, but we are still planning to expand further, and we need help with that.

If you are a fan of the work we do and want to support us, or if you just want to get rid of ALL ads on the website, please consider subscribing to our Patreon. We have four different tiers, which get you access to behind-the-scenes information/content, early podcast episodes, special mentions in our YouTube videos, and, of course, disabling all ads across our site. The most popular tier is our $3 one, which includes getting rid of ads, but if you really want more access and content, we do have a $6.50 and $10 tier.

If 1% of our users subscribed to the $3 tier on Patreon, we would be making more than what we have ever gotten from ad revenue on the website, which is pretty amazing. We are making a solid amount to keep us operating, but we do need to hire more writers and staff to help us with video production, so our expenses are most likely going to grow a bit more, too. Supporting us through Patreon really means a lot to all of us, so thank you for even considering it.

I have already posted the first of two new behind-the-scenes updates that I plan to post at the beginning of 2025, and the other one will be going up within the week.

If you want to support us but don't have the extra money, that's totally okay too! Every time you read our articles, share our work or engage with us on social media, it helps us expand and grow bit by bit. It all contributes, and it's something I appreciate immensely. Any way you choose to support us really does mean a lot to all of us here.

Thank you for taking the time to read, and I look forward to talking more about everything we have going on for this year! And a huge thank you to all of our current Patreon subscribers and possible new ones, you guys are the best.
