The Legend of Heroes: Trails Through Daybreak came out today, and it has been fantastic so far. On top of that, Daybreak 2 got announced for next year, and while that is more than enough to make me happy, Falcom/NIS America went even further. There was a big patch to bring in the English language support, but it went even further with significant graphical improvements, better UI quality for lower resolutions (like the Steam Deck resolution), and even HDR support!

For the specific improvements that affect the Steam Deck, we have better UI scaling for lower resolutions and the inclusion of HDR. The former will make it so the UI text is more readable, while HDR will allow you to not only allow you to use it without any hacks but also set maximum brightness and control the brightness of UI elements independently of each other. I did take photos of the UI before the patch and after, and I didn't see much difference at 1280x800 native resolution personally.

We also have significantly improved graphical enhancements, which were completely unexpected. We have improved shadow caching, new anti-aliasing options, better static reflections, an option to change the water shading pipeline to the PS4 or updated PS5 style, new high-quality resampling for resolution scale, and we have an overhaul of all the graphics presets. We also have Steam Dynamic Cloud Sync (which automatically syncs your cloud save when you sleep on your Steam Deck), some animations were relinquished regarding their 30 FPS limitations, and there's a new BGM info display feature.

There is much more included in the update, and you can check out the entire changelog on their Steam Community Post.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails Through Daybreak can be purchased now for $59.99 on Steam. It is rated Steam Deck Verified, though by their standards, some in-game text would be too small to read and I would consider it "Playable." Our review is in the works and will be released as soon as we finish the game!
