It wasn't long ago that we found out that the main Steam Deck Subreddit had banned any mention of our website. It was something that completely caught us off guard, especially since we are a Steam Deck news outlet. We did reach out to ask about it, but it only ended up with us getting banned from the sub entirely. Since then, we have been working on our subreddit, which has grown to over 18,000 members (which we really appreciate). But it looks like the change has been big enough for the sub to notice, and there have been some big changes there.

Recently, the sub has gotten a lot of flack for how it was run, with a ton of pictures and not enough information, and it seems a lot of it was done by the top mod. Thankfully, the moderator team has been completely changed out, with the old head mod being gone and now currently run by 3 of the older mods, and they seem to be taking a very different stance than before. In their announcement post, the new team mentions that there has been a moderator change, and from the look of it, the old head moderator has been removed entirely.

On top of that, one of the moderators messaged us directly to let us know that SteamDeckHQ has been unbanned completely, as well as the team that has been banned from the sub because of this. I did get a message from one of the new mods to let us know about the changes, and it is something I appreciate. I don't personally blame the new mods since they mentioned they had very limited power and could really only see the mod queue, but I do appreciate them taking the time to reach out with an olive branch.

It seems the old head mod was removed completely, and it could have been due to Reddit themselves taking some action. This was hinted at by a user who commented on a post made by that old head mod looking for temporary moderators (before they were removed):

I am hopeful this will be the start of a new era for the sub, and I will be active and watching when I can. Of course, our subreddit will still be a priority for us and we won't abandon it, but we love the Steam Deck community wherever they are and will be there to talk to them!
