Of all the games coming this year, The Rogue Prince of Persia is one of the few I wasn't expecting. A throwback to the original Prince of Persia style but with a roguelike spin and developed by Evil Empire, the team created to continue Dead Cells' post-release content development was not what I had thought would exist, but it does, and I couldn't be more excited. Recently, I asked some questions about how it would run on the Steam Deck, and the answers made me even more excited about the release.

From the answers I got, it seems we will be getting a fantastic game for the Steam Deck. According to the team, the Alpha testers reported a 45/50 FPS range when playing without any specific optimizations. There aren't any optimizations implemented in the game for the Steam Deck yet, which means it will be playable at 30 or 40 FPS without issue and possibly at 45/50 FPS with some instability.

As for future optimizations, the team plans to optimize The Rogue Prince of Persia in general and the Steam Deck throughout early access, so it will only get better as development continues. However, the team seems quite excited about the possibility of playing on the Steam Deck and is dedicated to bringing out the best experience possible for portable play.

While we won't know until the early access release how well the game is really running, I am quite confident in how it will run. On top of that, the game looks phenomenal. A roguelike setting really feels perfect for Prince of Persia, and with Evil Empire behind it, I can only see good things coming!
