ATLUS has just released a large packet of information about their upcoming Fantasy RPG Metaphor: ReFantazio. New details about the world, storyline, characters, and gameplay mechanics are here.

Here's a summary of the new details we've received:

  • Take part in a mysterious and exciting story in a world where people must fight against their own anxiety.
  • A Stylish UI, inspired by Western paintings allows you to fully enjoy this beautiful and fantastical world and its unique characters. Enjoy a soundtrack inspired by religious music, with a variety of musical styles including orchestral and folk music.
  • A battle system that combines turn-based commands and real-time action for exhilarating and strategical battles.

The story of Metaphor: ReFantazio takes place in the United Kingdom of Euchronia, a nation consisting of 3 countries and 8 tribes. The game will explore the cultural and ideological differences of these tribes, as the kingdom has become corrupted, and is beginning to fall apart due to the divisions among its population. Dangerous beasts and wild monsters known as "Humans" now roam the land, and wandering outside of the city means risking one's own life.

Play as part of the Elda tribe, a minority that is detested and not recognized by other tribes. His objective? To break the curse placed upon the kingdom's prince. He will travel across the nation, meeting members of other tribes who join forces with him on his quest. Eventually, he will learn the true nature of the kingdom.

Metaphor: ReFantazio's story was inspired by the simple message that "only by facing our anxieties can we take the first step forward.“ Despite this, the development team stresses that above all, their desire is to create a game that is fun above all else.

Metaphor: ReFantazio is due to launch on Steam in the Fall of 2024.
