Steam Deck Client Beta Update

A new small Steam Deck Beta Client update was released yesterday that fixes up some issues plaguing the beta client currently. The biggest one is collection names being displayed in all uppercase lettering when you edit, there was a fix for analog actions incorrectly reporting as active, and a new Rotate Output slider has been added to the Joystick and Joystick Mouse setting, which is great for boomer shooters.

This is hot on the heels of another beta client update released on July 19th, which fixed link formatting in news posts, improved the display of background recordings when using the Steam Game Recording feature, and fixed the Timer in Desktop mode. They are two smaller updates in general, but it's always extremely nice to see!

You can download the update for yourself in the System Settings on the Steam Deck and make sure your update channel is set to Beta or Preview.

Steam Deck Beta Client 7/23/24 Update Changelog:

General

  • Fixed collection names being displayed in all uppercase in edit controls.

Steam Input

  • SIAPI: Fix for analog actions from other action sets incorrectly reporting as active. This affected some titles including Okami HD.
  • Added "Rotate Output" slider to "Joystick" and "Joystick Mouse" mode settings. This can be useful for certain shmups, or simply to find a more natural "Up" direction on your joystick.

Steam Deck Beta client 7/19/24 Update Changelog:

General

  • Fixed formatting of links in news posts
  • Fixed a beta client only issue where a game may freeze while trying to set an achievement. This could affect games such as Elden Ring and Dark Souls.

Game Recording

  • Improved the display of background recordings in the Post Game Summary on library game pages, especially for footage recorded at 21:9 or wider aspect ratios.

Desktop Mode

  • Timer UI updated to use icons for buttons so that it works better across all languages.
  • Timer no longer has a Clear button since the new UI doesn't need it.
