Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 Will Have Steam Deck Support By The End of This Year

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is easily one of the games I am most looking forward to this year. I loved the original, and it is amazing to see it all come together. It looks fantastic, and I for one have been so curious to see if it will have Steam Deck support. Luckily, it appears my question has been answered, and it is both good and bad (but mostly good).

In a community update posted 2 hours ago at the time of writing on the Focus Entertainment community forums (thank you to Twitter/X user @Evilsheeplord for pointing this out), we have a little bit of a Q&A section at the bottom. Here, we can see multiple questions answered, and one of them is if the game will be playable on the Steam Deck, which has a nice response:

We are working on official Steam Deck support, but it's not ready yet. We’re currently targeting the end of the year for full Steam Deck support.

While this does mean the game may not have full support at launch, it will have it at some point! It is awesome seeing Focus being so transparent about it, and while I wish it was going to be there at launch, I am happy to see that it will come at some point. This doesn't mean the game won't be playable, but it may have specific helpful optimizations or a larger UI that come later this year in a new patch. We also have confirmation to increase the size of subtitles, which will definitely help on the smaller screens!

Other than this, there are some nice new confirmations here as well. There is no DRM software like Denuvo, Easy Anti Cheat will be included, it will be playable on GeForce NOW streaming, no Xbox Game Pass release, HUD elements can be removed, no pre-loading on PC, there will be full cross-play and cross-platform saves, and you don't need to play the first game to enjoy this one. The update goes over a lot of new information though, so I highly recommend checking it out.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 will be launching on September 9th with early access for Gold and Ultra edition beginning on September 5th.
