I am not someone that likes to report on rumors a majority of the time, even when they apply to the Steam Deck, but Kingdom Hearts is my weakness, and I fully acknowledge that. From some posts on X/Twitter, it seems like some of the big issues with the Epic Games release of the Kingdom Hearts games, like cutscenes not playing, may be fixed with the Steam release.

There are a couple of issues, other than the ridiculous setup, that you had to go through to play the Kingdom Hearts games on the Steam Deck, and one of those was needing to actually delete the cutscenes in the game so they don't freeze the system. Luckily, it seems that the issue may be fixed! On X/Twitter, RPGSite posted about Kingdom Hearts being displayed on a Steam Deck at IGN Live, saying the game may officially be supported. But what interests me more is the comment they made underneath it:

While this is completely unconfirmed, and I don't want to say definitively if this is true until I have tested for myself, this could be massive. The cutscenes not being playable on the Steam Deck was one of the big drawbacks of trying to play the older titles in the series with their native PC ports, since we would miss out on some key context or not be able to watch 358/2 days or Re:Coded. If this is true, we should have no issues whatsoever!

As for its support on the Steam Deck, I will take it with a grain of salt. I have seen games shown off on a Deck that weren't the greatest, but I do trust Square Enix, and I have a feeling this is going to be the premiere way to play the game on Deck!

Kingdom Hearts 1.5+2.5, 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and 3 + Re Mind DLC can all be wishlisted on Steam now ahead of their June 13th release date.
