Blue Prince is easily one of my favorite games this year, and it's a joy to play on the Steam Deck. It's quite possibly one of the best puzzle and roguelike games I have played, and while it can get difficult later on, it's still worth figuring it out as you go. However, with the game having released today, it seems some are running into a big issue, resulting in colored bars appearing on the screen. Luckily, this won't be an issue for too long.

Twitter/X user @DoublePudge took to social media to ask about the issue and if someone could help. About 25 minutes later, Raw Fury's official account responded, mentioning they are working on a fix for this issue right now:

The video they are linking to is a guide on how to get a community-made Proton layer called GE-Proton, which has specific codecs in it that Valve doesn't have in their official layer. This means that some cutscenes that aren't able to be played with Valve's layer should be working with GE-Proton, and this is something we have seen before.

However, this may not work for Blue Prince. According to a Reddit post by MiddlingVor, they also experienced this same issue, but GE-Proton didn't completely fix the problem. It also caused additional issues like disabling the Steam Deck gamepad and other weird visual problems.

So, it may be safest to just wait for Raw Fury to get an official fix out, but if you want to try your luck with GE-Proton, you can follow our guide on how to download it! I am very lucky not to have encountered these issues when playing for my review, but I hope a fix comes out soon so everyone can enjoy one of the best games to have released this year so far.

Blue Prince is available on Steam now for $26.99 until April 20th. It is rated Steam Deck Playable due to small in-game text.
