It has been proven enough to be a fact that Valve works quickly when it comes to necessary updates for some of the biggest games, and it appears they have worked their magic once again! Less than 24 hours after a new update for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle released and broke compatibility with the Steam Deck, Valve has released their own update to fix this via the Proton Hotfix branch.

Announced by Valve's own Pierre-Loup Griffais, an update on the Proton Hotfix branch has fixed the crash for Indiana Jones that would happen when booting the game, making it unplayable:
The game has since changed its default Proton layer to the Proton Hotfix branch, so you shouldn't need to force anything when booting the game up.
I went ahead and tested this as well, and I can confirm that it does boot now. It did take a little longer to get to the main menu, but I was able to do it. Oddly enough, the new FSR 3 option was nowhere to be found, but I was able to turn on XeSS. Setting it to Performance mode, I was actually getting better performance than I remember. I was hitting over 30 FPS in areas I wasn't before, with some minor drops to the high 20s in some cutscenes.
While it's hard to say it is fully playable on the Steam Deck now, I would say it is more playable. Take it with a grain of salt, but if you are playing at 30 FPS and okay with XeSS at Performance or Ultra Performance, this may be a worthwhile portable purchase. Just be warned that it may drop later in the game, which I haven't seen just yet.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle can be purchased on Steam for $69.99, but if you want to save some money, you can get it on Fanatical for $59.49 with coupon code FANATICAL15.
