If you were eagerly anticipating the release of the Medieval Kingdom story generator 'Norland', then I'm afraid we have some disappointing news, the release has been pushed back from this month until July 2024. The developers stated that they wished to have a couple of extra months in order to add some new features that they feel will benefit the game. In slightly better news, however, the developers also confirmed that the game has surpassed 500,000 wishlists on Steam, which is a pretty huge number!

So what are these new features that are being added to Norland in the next 2 months before release?

These include enhanced world map trading, where you can negotiate contracts with neighboring rulers. An element of ecology in the game, where you will have to contend with finite resources and market saturation, meaning you will need sustainable methods in order to keep your kingdom prosperous.

There are also new mechanics for the more detailed part of the game, such as characters patrolling, enhancements to how the characters react, and market speculation.

Your family will now age, as opposed to being immortal as originally planned. And there will be the addition of "Prophecies and Disasters" that will appear from the mid-game.

There'll also be a whole host of other quality-of-life improvements and features, which can be read about in this Steam post.

It seems like delaying Norland might be a good idea if they can get all these additional features in and working!

Norland is due to release on Steam on July 18th, 2024. It is available to wishlist now. There's no word on controller support yet, and the system requirements are on the high side for the Steam Deck, but we're hopeful this one will work on the Deck when it releases in July.

Are you disappointed that Norland has been delayed, or are you glad the developers are taking the extra time? Let us know in the comments below!
