Nightdive Studios, famed for reviving classic games such as Star Wars Dark Forces and Quake 2 Enhanced, announced 2 new games it's working on over the weekend. Those being The Thing: Remastered, and Killing Time: Resurrected!

The Thing: Remastered

The Thing: Remastered is a faithful restoration of the cult-classic 2002 third-person survival horror shooter game, which itself was inspired by Universal Pictures’ genre-defining 1982 film, The Thing.

Nightdive Studios are bringing their usual tricks of the trade to The Thing: Remastered, such as Antialiasing, Per Pixel Lighting, 4K Resolution, and support for up to 144 FPS.

In The Thing: Remastered, you'll play as Cpt J.F. Blake, leader of a U.S. Special Forces rescue team sent to investigate the deaths of the American scientific team at the Outpost 31 research facility located in the frozen wastelands of Antarctica. While there, your team encounters a strange shape-shifting alien life-form that assumes the appearance of people that it kills. Trapped by the elements and infected by this horrific entity, using all your team members is critical if you hope to accomplish your objectives, let alone survive. If you only knew which ones were still human…

We have full controller support, and although this game is a bit newer than the game's Nightdive Studios typically work on, the system requirements should be easily handled by the Steam Deck on lower settings.

Killing Time: Resurrected

The second game announced was a remake of the 1995 3DO game, Killing Time.

Journey into a mansion on the Island of Matinicus where you'll arrive to find the mansion full of hellacious demonic creatures. Solve deadly puzzles, uncover the secrets behind a famous mystery, and discover an ancient artifact from the Pharaoh Ramses, if you can live long enough to find it.

A bit more work is put into Killing Time: Resurrected, mainly because it's such an old title, here's what you can expect this remaster will add to the game: Toggleable high-resolution character artwork/sprites from the original 3DO and PC versions of the game, upscaled environmental texturing, smoother gameplay, more responsive controls, and expanded control and key-bind settings.

Big surprise, we're also getting 4k and 144 FPS support, as well as Anti-Aliasing. They love saying that over at Nightdive, don't they?

Set in the early 1930s, Killing Time: Resurrected casts you as a student, studying the cryptic world of Egyptology, who finds themselves trapped in the estate of wealthy heiress Tess Conway. A ritual to bestow eternal life conducted by Ms. Conway backfires and her high-society friends vanish without a trace. It’s up to you to find and destroy the mystical Egyptian Water-Clock to undo its curse and face a legion of super(natural) horrors.
