Astroneer has been around for a while now, and fans of the game will be delighted to hear it is getting an expansion!

This was a big surprise, given that Astroneer has been out of Early Access for quite some time. System Era Softworks must have agreed, as they and publishers Devolver Digital revealed their first expansion for Astroneer. Called Glitchwalkers, it is set for a release later this year.

In Glitchwalkers, players will journey to a new planet: the largest Astroneer has ever seen, and take upon a brand new story. On Aeoluz, players meet Lyn, a disgruntled member of the ESS Elysium crew who sabotages the vital Astroneer Training Program’s (ATP) code. As Lyn’s work threatens the livelihood of the Astroneer training program, players must work with Elysium’s Head of Maintenance, Frank, to stop Lyn before she dismantles the ATP from the inside.

Alongside the story, Aeolux features a ton of new surface and cave biomes to explore, including an upgraded tech tree to put all those new things to good use! Alongside the big DLC, a free update to the base game includes a slew of new gameplay improvements, bug fixes, and quality-of-life changes that should be a nice treat for us all, even if we don’t pick up the expansion.

Glitchwalkers can be wishlisted on Steam right now. I enjoyed the base Astroneer game a lot, and an expansion as meaty as this one has huge potential. What do you think of the upcoming expansion? Let us know in the comments!
