Among the PC gaming sphere right now, most of the attention is on Lenovo, ASUS, and Valve for their handhelds, MSI's attempts have largely gone under the radar due to the unfortunate performance of the Intel chips in handhelds, but another major name in the business has also said they would be interested in joining the fray, HP.
As reported on Pocket Tactics via XDA Developers, the General Manager of Gaming Solutions at HP, Josephine Tan, said that the company would be interested in making a gaming handheld that takes advantage of SteamOS.
Put simply, Josephine Tan isn't a fan of how Windows currently runs on handhelds, and as a result, she said they have no interest in developing a handheld that runs Windows right now. But with Valve starting to allow 3rd-party companies to use SteamOS for their devices, she said they would be interested in making an HP handheld that used SteamOS.

With the likes of ASUS, MSI, and Lenovo invested in the space, and seemingly continuing to iterate on their designs, it wouldn't be a stretch to see other companies try their hand at making a portable gaming device too.
Rumors have been churning about Microsoft improving the experience on Windows for handhelds too, so the space is heating up regardless of the operating system of your choice.
Of course, this doesn't confirm that HP is working on a gaming handheld, but it highlights how companies are watching this space and keeping their options open.

Installed steamos on a HP t640 thin client today. No modifications. Just worked. Used the steamos 3.8 recovery image. Played games worked fine. Slow hardware but it worked. AMD APUs just seem to work.
