Playing Halo multiplayer on the Steam Deck feels really weird. It reminds me of the Xbox days and just imagining playing those games in the palm of my hand. Unfortunately, the most recent update for Halo: The Master Chief Collection on September 19th seemed to break online multiplayer, which is a big bummer. But today, I am happy to say that multiplayer is working again!
Liam from GamingOnLinux reported that when the game stopped working, Halo: The Master Chief Collection's multiplayer, with anti-cheat enabled, is working again! After seeing this, I was very excited and went ahead to download and test it for myself. And after a couple of matches, I am pleased to say that, yes, it is working without any proton forcing or extra launch commands needed!
Hopefully, it will stay this way since playing Halo on the Steam Deck still feels quite incredible.
Halo: The Master Chief Collection is currently available on Steam for $39.99 and is rated Playable due to small in-game text, needing to use the virtual keyboard to enter text, and needing a community controller configuration to effectively play.
