Nintendo Switch Direct

And here we have it, ladies and gentlemen. Raise a glass to the last Nintendo Direct that focuses on the Nintendo Switch, the absolute gem of a device that launched March 3rd, 2017, alongside such titles like the phenomenal The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove and, of course, 1-2-Switch. With the Nintendo Switch 2-focused Direct just a week away, let us recap what was shown for everyone's beloved hybrid console.

DRAGON QUEST I & II HD-2D Remake (Also Coming to Steam)

Following last year's superb Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, it was only natural that Square-Enix continue the Erdrick trilogy with an equally gorgeous HD-2D reimagining of the ensuing titles, chronologically speaking.

DRAGON QUEST I & II HD-2D Remake will be released later this year for the Nintendo Switch family of consoles, as well as PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.

No Sleep for Kaname Dante - From AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES (Also Coming to Steam)

In the latest entry in the AI: The Somnium Files series, you play as the titular Kaname Dante, a special agent with an AI embedded in his left eye, searching for an internet celebrity. As you do. While it may sound like a standard Thursday for some, you must conduct interviews and solve investigations to progress through these mysterious circumstances.

No Sleep for Kaname Dante - From AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES will be available July 25th, 2025, for Nintendo Switch and Steam.

RAIDOU Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army (Also Coming to Steam)

Making his living as a fugitive detective, you play as Raidou Kuzunoha, a man who fights alongside demons as a Devil Summoner. Having first released for the PlayStation 2 back in 2006 under the title Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. the Soulless Army, you fight alongside the aforementioned demons in real time, subsequently having the chance to capture them, as will be familiar for anyone that has enjoyed other Atlus titles - Persona, Shin Megami Tensei, Metaphor: Refantazio, etc.

RAIDOU Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army launches June 19th, 2025, and will be available for the Nintendo Switch family of consoles, as well as PC, PS5, PS4, and Xbox Series X/S.

Shadow Labyrinth (Also Coming to Steam)

What happens if you grab a mysterious figure, a Pac-Man assistant named Puck, and wrap it up in a Metroidvania shell? Well, Shadow Labyrinth, as it turns out. You can both fuse with Puck out of combat to open up the world or in combat to form a massive mech called Gaia, whereby you consume your enemy, enabling skills to be unlocked and activated.

Shadow Labyrinth will be available on July 18th, 2025, for the Nintendo Switch family of consoles, as well as PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.

PATAPON 1+2 RELAY (Also Coming to Steam) (Rated Steam Deck Playable)

Pata Pata Pata Pon! String various combinations of commands to instruct your Patapon army to victory in this hugely enjoyable and engaging PSP classic. New features have been added, such as difficulty levels per game and the option to always show the available combination commands you have at your disposal.

PATAPON 1+2 RELAY will be available on July 11th, 2025, on the Nintendo Switch family of consoles, PS5 and Steam.

STORY OF SEASONS: Grand Bazaar (Also Coming to Steam)

Initially released for the Nintendo DS way back when in 2008 under the name Harvest Moon DS: Grand Bazaar, this updated Nintendo Switch version has "no shortage of activities to get up to". Incidentally, I was today years old when I realised that Harvest Moon and Story of Seasons are the same series.

STORY OF SEASONS: Grand Bazaar will launch on August 27th, 2025, for the Nintendo Switch and Steam.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

You can colour me surprised when this rocked up on the Nintendo Direct, seeming more like a meme request, ala Bloodborne Remastered, than anything. Still, here it is, shown 8 years after its initial announcement. It certainly looks like more Metroid Prime, which is never a bad thing.

This time around, Samus will be granted Psychic abilities, granting her the power to move objects around to solve various puzzles, such as opening somewhat questionably designed, vulvic-shaped doors. The trajectory of some attacks can also be changed and controlled mid-shot with said powers, which will no doubt factor into some mechanics for later bosses.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (a subtitle forever ruined by Greg Miller's ever-famous exuberance) is set to launch later in 2025.

Disney Villains Cursed Café (Released on Steam)

Concocting perilous potions for various Disney Villain visitors, this surprise announcement blends a gorgeous art style with an ever-changing story based on the choices made.

Disney Villains Cursed Café is available now for Nintendo Switch and Steam.

Witchbrook (Also Coming to Steam)

A personal standout for me in this Nintendo Direct, Witchbrook looks right up my (infinitely more inclusive, Diagon-esque) alley. Take your fledgling spell slinger to an accomplished sorcerer or sorceress on an enchanting adventure, featuring a stunning pixel art style and an equally beautiful accompanying soundtrack.

The four-player co-op will also be a welcome addition when Witchbrook launches this holiday period for Nintendo Switch, Steam, and Xbox Series X/S.

The Eternal Life of Goldman (Also Coming to Steam)

I never thought imbuing your walking stick with magical properties would be a selling point to me, especially one paired with a Ducktales-esque pogo bounce, but here we are. The Eternal Life of Goldman is one to look out for, especially one with such a killer visual presentation.

The Eternal Life of Goldman is set to launch during this holiday period for Nintendo Switch and Steam.

Gradius ORIGINS (Also Coming to Steam)

Celebrating a miraculous 40 years, this collection includes titles from across its rich history, such as Gradius, Salamander, Lifeforce, and multiple sequels from each of these titles. A new entry in the Salamander series, Salamander 3, is also included.

Gradius ORIGINS launches on August 7th, 2025.

Rift of the Necrodancer (Released on Steam)

If there were a game to recommend based on what I've been enjoying this year, it would effortlessly be Rift of the Necrodancer. Rhythm-based combat under the guise of a Guitar Hero-esque track is enjoyable and addictive, with the occasional fleeting moment of frustration thrown in for good measure. The superb soundtrack from Danny Baranowsky, Alex Moukala, et al. fuels attempt after attempt, and to see this coming to other platforms is terrific.

We also welcome the announcement of future DLC support, with Celeste and Super Meat Boy as examples of future packs.

Rift of the Necrodancer is available on both Nintendo Switch and Steam.

Tamagotchi Plaza

Twelve stores await you in the latest entry in the Tamagotchi Connection: Corner Shop series! You can scrub teeth one moment and design glasses the next, either by yourself or with a friend.

Tamagotchi Plaza launches June 27th, 2025, for the Nintendo Switch.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A

Lumiose City stars once again, with particular focus on the varieties of environments and different Pokémon you'll no doubt come across on your journeys. What's new, however, is how the city changes at night. The wild zones are transformed once the sun goes down, and instead, powerful trainers roam and participate in the Z-A Royale, a tournament whereby you'll battle said trainers to rise through the ranks (starting at Z and ending at A).

Pokémon Legends: Z-A will be available in late 2025.

Rhythm Paradise Groove

Hilariously odd rhythm games await you by the dozen in Rhythm Paradise Groove, a title that oozes personality and comedic charm. It's still a ways off, mind, with a vague 2026 date, but it's still one to watch!

Virtual Game Cards

Not a game announcement this time around, but a new feature coming to the Nintendo Switch family of consoles. Digital purchases and included save files will be transferable between two Nintendo Switch devices, as effortlessly as with physical cards. What's more, games can be lent to members of your Nintendo Switch family account, with the maximum length available being 2 weeks. The title is then returned to the original owner automatically. This feature is due soon, in late April, and will work with the Nintendo Switch 2 console.

SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered (Also Released on Steam)

Gustave and Wil appear in this HD remaster of SaGa Frontier 2, a 1999 PlayStation 1 title. This stylish classical RPG features not only the original story but also additional scenarios that expand key elements.

SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered is available now for the Nintendo Switch.

Monument Valley Trilogy (All Games are on Steam)

The Monument Valley titles are as beautiful and striking as they come, and with the news that Monument 3 has finally been freed from Netflix's clutches, now is the perfect time to enjoy these isometric bundles of puzzle bliss, including additional puzzles and DLC.

Monument Valley and Monument Valley II are available April 15th, 2025, with Monument Valley III arriving sometime in Summer 2025.

EVERYBODY'S GOLF: Hot Shots (Also Coming to Steam)

Speaking of escaping the clutches of an apparent captor, we now have an Everybody's Golf title on a non-PlayStation platform! Everybody's Golf is sublime and as enjoyable as golf games go, far surpassing the moustached plumber's attempts. Yeah, I said it. So what.

EVERYBODY'S GOLF: Hot Shots is set to release sometime in 2025.

MARVEL Cosmic Invasion (Also Coming to Steam)

Marvel's mightiest heroes come swinging in this beautiful 2D side-scrolling beat-em-up, featuring an enormous cast of hugely recognisable characters. Four-player co-op is also available, and will - naturally - enhance any enjoyment fourfold. Don't check the math on that.

MARVEL Cosmic Invasion launches this winter.

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream

The first new entry to the Tomodachi Life series in over 10 years, Living the Dream is set to fill the void no doubt left by the severe lack of Animal Crossing in our lives since 2020. We still have a wait to enjoy dozens of Mii characters living their best life, mind, with a vague 2026 release window being announced, but the existence of such an oft-requested new entry should keep those interested at bay... for now.

Introducing Nintendo Today!

The last announcement of the day belonged not to a game per se but to everything Nintendo as a whole. A new iPhone and Android application, Nintendo Today, is now available.
