The Steam Deck was already the cheapest handheld PC with this kind of power, but did you know you can now get it for even cheaper than before? Valve has officially announced that Certified Refurbished Steam Decks are now here for purchase!
These Steam Decks are limited in supply, but have been thoroughly tested using the same standards that are used in the new, retail units. These devices have been factory reset, updated, and have had tests on their controller inputs, audio system, screen, internals, and battery health to make sure everything is up to par. There may be a few cosmetic blemishes, but they will provide the same performance that brand new retail units do.
For every refurbished unit, you will get a fully refurbished power supply, a carrying case and quick start guide, and it will fall under the same one year warranty a new Steam Deck would have. Though, if you live in a country that requires a longer warranty, that law's warranty will be the one it follows.
As mentioned in our other article, you can get each model of the Steam Deck as refurbished for different prices:
- 64gb - $319
- 256gb - $419
- 512gb - $519
Supplies are limited though and will go in and out as more devices become available. You can also get a maximum of 2 in your order.
On top of that, Gamestop rolled out their refurbished Steam Deck line today too! There are a few different caveats with this deal though. Getting a refurbished Steam Deck at Gamestop will only be available to Pro members and while the 64gb and 512gb models are the same price, the 256gb model is $429, $10 more than what Valve is offering.
Unlike Valve, however, it appears you can get a pre-owned docking station from Gamestop. The station will be $71 instead of the normal $89 and seems to also be a pro-exclusive deal.
The devices here are actually handled by Gamestop's facilities instead of Valves, so if you get it from Gamestop, they use their warranty and not Valve's.
These are all in-person too, so you will need to consult the map Gamestop provides to see which stores have these in stock. Though, if you are in North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Nebraska, or Alaska, there doesn't seem to be any stores there that have it in stock.
Regardless, this is exciting and a fantastic way to get an incredible handheld PC that plays so many games for even cheaper than before. If you are on the fence of getting a Steam Deck, this might be the best way to get it!
