2K breaks Bioshock Infinite Linux

Yesterday, 2K released an update to the Bioshock Remasters and Infinite dubbed a "Quality of Life" update. This update did 2 things, neither of which are actually fixing anything in the games:

  • Account linking option added in-game
  • The addition of a new Launcher which includes a Store to purchase new content

You can view the update's changelog over on Steam.

Due to this update, we tested each of the games to make sure they still work. While they are all working, Bioshock Infinite's native Linux build is broken entirely. Thankfully, you can get around this using Proton GE (which you can learn to get from our guide).

None of the games brought up any 3rd party launcher, which I take as a good sign, but this practice is ridiculous. Third party launchers are unnecessary to the actual experience of the game and can make things significantly harder not just on Deck, but on desktop computers as well.

Some launchers, like the Borderlands ones, are super obnoxious to deal with, while others will go the extra mile and only allow you to change quality settings from the launcher and not in-game. And some, like the ones added today, break support too like the Linux build of Bioshock Infinite.
