Every day, denying the meteoric rise of the Steam Deck gets harder and harder. The cheaper price point mixed with the fantastic features that allow us to play PC games portably has been a blast, and it seems that the feeling, among others, is continually rising. In the monthly Steam Hardware and Software Survey that Valve releases, we now have official word that the amount of Linux users on Steam has risen above 2%, and it is largely thanks to the Steam Deck.

According to the Survey, Windows has fallen by about 0.55%, but Linux has risen by 0.42%, bringing the total to 2.32%! MacOS has grown as well, but it sits at about 1.47% right now. Looking at the specific Linux breakdown, we can see that SteamOS's use has risen by 3.01%, the Deck's GPU, the 0405, has increased by 4.02%, and the primary display resolution of the Deck, which is 1280x800, has increased by 2.95%. It's hard to deny that this increase is from more Steam Deck users joining Steam and using it to play!

To make things even more interesting, this is the first time in the last 10 years that it has gone above 2%! According to GamingOnLinux, the last time we saw this rise was in March 2013, when Valve added a special Team Fortress 2 item for Linux users. Even though it has fluctuated since the Deck was released, I consider this pretty fantastic news overall. Linux as an operating system has come a long way, and I couldn't be happier to see it grow so much.
