Tape to Tape is one of the few current hockey games that has really gripped my attention. I love the art style, and it is a lot of fun to play, but it isn't perfect on the Steam Deck. While the majority of the game runs really well, the customization options were not working with a gamepad, though it seems this may not be the case much longer.
In the last couple of updates, the Customization feature has rolled out, which allows you to create players and teams. Soon, you will be able to change logos, colors, abilities, and more. Sadly, this isn't compatible with a controller/gamepad just yet, which has affected how the game is played on the Steam Deck.
In their newest update for Tape to Tape, which brings some new reworks, the developers also address that the Customization feature could cause crashes and isn't functional on the Deck. While we could get around this, it is a bit obnoxious due to the rest of the game working fine with a gamepad. The developers do mention that this will be resolved as soon as possible, though, and them knowing the issue and addressing it is a big positive in my book!
Hopefully, we will see this change soon, but until then, you can get Tape to Tape on Steam now for $15.99. The game is rated Verified and runs quite well on the Steam Deck, so this is a great recommendation for hockey and sports fans who want a roguelike challenge.

Oh and if you DO check out Super Blood Hockey and play it on Steam Deck, you may have to Disable or Enable the Steam Controller setting outside of the game otherwise you may end up with your controller either not being recognized or instead recognized as two different separate devices. It depends on what controller you are using and I've had to enable the setting for my Power A controller and disable it for my 8BitDo Ultimate C WiFi controller.
Either issue is addressable so don't freak out if you have trouble with the default settings.
Games have to be super cheap or in a bundle for me to afford them, but I'm not saying Tape to Tape should be priced any lower. I've played it and it's worth it's current price. That being said I recently had to get my hockey game fix from Super Blood Hockey, which is a take off from the Nintendo original Ice Hockey on the NES. There are 3 kinds of players that make up teams of 4v4 (5v5 if you count the goalies): the taller slimmer Snipers, which I think were called Lankys in the original NES game, then there's the slower heavyset Enforcers (blanking on their old name, Fatsos?), and the average looking Playmakers (Peewees?). There are just a few national teams to pick from but there is also a franchise mode in addition to tournaments and exhibitions. It's cartoony and occasionally frustrating but still well made enough to where you don't feel as though your losing is due to the game being broken in any way. It's just a little bit tough and the difficulty is sadly not adjustable, although you can choose to manually control your goalie, although I don't see that making the game any easier.
I got it on the winter sale for about 2 and a quarter USD and it's definitely worth checking out, maybe even just as a way of passing the time while you wait on the forthcoming patches for Tape to Tape.
