We're all desperate for news regarding the Steam Machine, with Valve giving the ominous release window of "Early 2026", we realistically could see a release at any moment. Adding further fuel to the fire, 2 major Czech retailers have listed pricing for the device on their websites, with Smarty.cz listing the 2TB model for just over $1050, and Alza.cz listing it for just under $1200. The 512GB model is listed for around $950; all these prices are pre-sales tax (VAT).

Alza has a Slovak sister site that operates in Euros, which also has a Steam Machine listing. Currently, that is listing the Steam Machine (2TB) as costing €1010 ($1175), pre-sales tax.

With VAT (sales tax) added, it would push the 2TB model closer to $1300, far beyond what I was personally expecting. The 512GB model would end up being around $1150 with VAT added. The Slovak Alza site lists the Euro price with VAT as €1239.90 ($1440).

Of course, there are other considerations to take into account, such as technology generally being more expensive in Czechia than in the US. A PS5 Slim Digital console, for example, costs the equivalent of around $600 (post-tax) in Czechia, whereas in the US, they generally retail for around $490.

Therefore, it wouldn't be surprising to see the Steam Machine (512GB) launch with a pre-tax price of around $800, and the 2TB at around $900. It's all speculation, of course, and these retailers may just be picking a relatively safe number out of thin air as a placeholder, but it does fall in the upper range of what we were expecting.

Given the RAM shortage crisis lately, it would be tough to build an equivalent PC for this price right now, so if you were looking for an avenue into PC gaming, the Steam Machine still presents decent value, but it might not be the cheap entryway that some hoped it would be, like the Steam Deck was for handhelds, provided this pricing stands.
