As a fan of the Trails series, this is one I am super excited to cover this! SkyInstaller, the one-click installer made by chyyran for adding Japanese voice acting to the Trails in the Sky trilogy, has just gotten a new update to support SteamOS, and more specifically, the Steam Deck!

With the 1.4.1 update, SteamOS support is being dropped in. While it is in beta, it does work quite well. The installer, once downloaded and extracted, will automatically detect if your game is installed via Steam and give you the option to just install. You can, however, browse to another folder if you installed it outside of Steam. Make sure you download the skyinstaller-steamos.tgz and extract it to your Desktop, then just run SkyInstaller!

Once you choose, you can just hit install and bam, it will do all the rest for you! Once that is done, you should be good to just start up the Trails game you have chosen.

Just remember to go to the settings and change the voice over language to Japanese! And yes, English voice over options will still be there to choose from, nothing is deleted!

Trails in the Sky is part of a large-scale JRPG series that encompasses multiple sub-series. It has a beautiful, sprawling story where each game connects to each other in some way while maintaining their own independence. Trails in the Sky 1 and 2 both say they are unsupported on Steam Deck, but they work swimmingly from my experience with them. If you are a fan of rich stories, JRPGs in general, and turn-based combat, don't hesitate and dive into this amazing series!!
