Heroic Launcher Adds EA Games Support in Newest Update

One of the best tools to play Epic, GOG, and Amazon games is the Heroic Launcher. The community-driven project, which aims to get games playable on Linux through DRMs that don't support it, has been huge in helping get games exclusive to other launchers like Epic Games running on the Steam Deck. It was the first tool I used to be able to play Kingdom Hearts back in 2022 when I first got my Steam Deck. Today, the 2.15.0 update was released, and it looks like the wait for this update was very much worth the 4-month wait since the last big release.

Heroic Launcher 2.15.0 Update Highlights:

EA Games (Epic Games) Support

The biggest part of this update, for myself at least, was the addition of another launcher or library to use! We now have EA Games support for Epic Games Store embedded into the launcher. This means that if you have EA games on your Epic account, you should be able to play them through Heroic now! This is great, and unlocks the EA catalogue if you have games on there.

Legacy DRM Support Added and Downloads Fixed for Amazon Games

There are some games you could get from Amazon that haven't been working, but this update should fix that! Legacy DRM support was added, making some games playable that weren't before, like Devil May Cry 1. There were also some issues with downloading some games from Amazon as well, but that has been fixed!

Experimental GOG Achievements/Multiplayer Support Added

On top of Epic and Amazon Games getting some improvements and changes, GOG has as well! Comet support is being introduced here in experimental fashion, which is an open-source implementation of GOG Galaxy's Communication Service. This allows you to have both achievements and multiplayer for GOG games that go through Galaxy, which is fantastic!

Discord Rich Presence Overhaul

For those who love using Discord, this is just a nice little addition. The Discord Rich Presence in the Heroic Launcher has been overhauled. This means that Discord can detect that you are using Heroic and actually be more specific and display more info about what you are doing. So, if you are looking at your Epic Games library, it could say that on Discord! Or if you are playing a game through Heroic, it may mention that game.

Miscellaneous Fixes and Improvements

We also have a slew of different updates and improvements with this update. We can now install and uninstall DLC for Native Linux games, UMU-launcher support has been added in experimentally, translations have been updated, GOG library fetching has been simplified, Power saver blocker disabling after library updates has been fixed, and more! You should be able to download the new update from their Github page or through the Discover Store! This is an awesome update though, and a huge congratulations to the Heroic team for getting it out.
