I have been quite excited for Konami's releases lately, and I am even more excited to see the direction that Silent Hill is heading in. The Silent Hill 2 remake is phenomenal, and ever since seeing Silent Hill f, I have been looking forward to learning more about it. Coincidentally, I was actually in the process of putting together our Steam Deck Verified/Playable list and I saw Silent Hill f pop up, and it turns out the game was rated Playable a couple of days ago!

Silent Hill f

Silent Hill f was rated Playable for two reasons: Small in-game text and needing to manually configure the graphics settings for optimal play, while the game already shows the correct controller icons and has controller support. I am quite surprised to see mention of manual configuration of graphics settings appear, which actually makes me feel a little more confident about the rating and actually being able to play on the go.

The minimum system requirements at the bottom note a pretty heavy CPU (Intel Core i5-8400 / AMD Ryzen 5 2600) and GPU (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Ti / AMD Radeon RX 5700) requirement that I would usually consider too high for the Steam Deck, but with the addition of the manual configuration flag, I feel like maybe developer NeoBards Entertainment and Konami did something behind the scenes for the Deck. It does mention to play on Performance quality for 30 FPS at 1280x720 resolution, and with that being near the Deck's 800p screen resolution, it may be a sign that we should be able to play.

Still, I don't want to get too excited. The GPU requirement is quite high and above the Deck's power, so there may be some considerable sacrifices to get it running. However, games with less strict requirements, like Black Myth: Wukong, were rated Unsupported instead of Playable, so maybe this is going to be an outlier. Regardless, I think it's awesome, and I can't wait to try the game out for myself!

Silent Hill f can be wishlisted on Steam now.
