A couple hours ago, CD Project Red, the developers of the Witcher series and Cyberpunk, had a livestream (you can watch the saved version) detailing the next-gen update coming to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on December 14th. This update will include a plethora of new features like Raytracing options, new quests, photo mode, and a bunch of fixes. But there were 2 in particular that I believe will be the most beneficial for Steam Deck users.
The first is the inclusion of FSR 2.0. At the 16:47 timestamp of the stream, it is mentioned that FSR 2 will be included in this update, as well as DLSS and dynamic resolution scaling. While the Witcher 3 wasn't really suffering from any extreme problems and could be run at a decent framerate, this will most likely allow us to either push the framerate closer to 60 or conserve more battery without lowering visual fidelity as much.
The second is text and HUD resizing options. At the 32:37 timestamp, some accessibility options are shown off, including multiple options to scale different types of text and the HUD. This includes subtitle, dialogue choice, and NPC chatter font sizes. This will be especially welcome and necessary for playing on the smaller Steam Deck screen!
Overall, this is chalking up to be an awesome FREE update that is going to hopefully help performance and battery conservation even more! The update will be out on December 14th. Also a quick big thank you to Twitter user @comicgeekdad13 for bringing this to our attention initially!
As a fully licenced 4-eyed old f*rt, I'm more giddy for a bigger text really. Quality of life improvement in my book. All games from now on should have a quasi-gameboy-text-size option.
And it should be advertized more as a needed Accessibility feature on nerd Social Media. Could you do a pool on twitter for example to give it more visibility? Most games waste space on wide bars to just display 3 words in the smallest font possible, because large fonts cost SO much more /s
(I think i've just made my 1st sentence a true statement)
Yeah I completely agree. Having options for larger text is becoming more and more necessary. I’d love to help highlight that!
Although it is true that today it works without a problem at a constant 40fps and without experiencing high temperatures. It is also possible that the new update will raise the minimum requirements, so I don't know if reaching 60fps is a sure thing to achieve. anyway it's good news
It is possible! Though I felt 50 FPS was so close to 60 that it would be hard to tell the difference. I bet that will be more achievable without more sacrifices!
Raytracing as well. So maybe 30 fps builds with nicer visuals.
That’s what I’m thinking! Overall, I believe it will be significantly better for results!
