Update 11/21/22: It appears the notice that an account for Ubisoft Connect has now been added. The game will be using their 3rd party DRM when released as well.
It looks like they couldn’t hold off much longer to Epic Store exclusivity! It appears Ubisoft, well known for the Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six franchises, are bringing their newer titles back over to Steam.
This has been seemingly confirmed as a Steam store page for Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla has gone live and will be released on December 6th to coincide with the final update for the game due that same day.
While this could have been a one-off, Eurogamer has reported that other Ubisoft titles are prepped to come to Steam like Anno 1800 and Roller Champions.
For Steam Deck owners, this is exciting news. Games running from Steam tend to have better performance than using a 3rd party launcher on the Deck when there’s a Steam version. It also appears Valhalla doesn’t have a 3rd party DRM as the store page has no mention of it. This could easily, and probably will, change closer to release, but still worth noting. Mention of connecting to a Ubisoft Connect account has been added, which means there will be a 3rd party launcher to go through if launching the game via Steam.
I, for one, am super excited to see these games make a debut on Steam and welcome Ubisoft back. Hopefully, this will mean Steam store release parity as well and not any sort of timed exclusivity, but that remains to be seen.
Let's hope Division 2 will be implemented. Amazing game !
Right?? I hope so! I would love an excuse to play The Division 2 again!
