Playing online games is something I enjoy much more on the Steam Deck than I did with any other device. It just feels more meaningful to invest my time in when I am able to take the game wherever I go or easily play it without needing to set up a desktop PC. The Elder Scrolls Online is one of those games, and even though it had been working on the Deck already, it finally got its Playable badge!

Even though the game was working on Deck, it never had a Verified or Playable badge. This is most likely due to the launcher being a bit buggy and needing some workarounds or forcing you to go back and make sure the launcher was closed after starting the game up. However, according to ProtonDB reports, it seems Proton 9 has fixed this problem, making it significantly more playable on the Steam Deck. This is probably what allowed them to get the Playable rating now!

Other than the launcher needing the touchscreen or virtual keyboard, the game does require you to manually bring up the virtual keyboard and you need to manually enable controller support in the in-game settings. These are small extra steps, but overall, it does mean the game is much more enjoyable to play on the go. They have mentioned that the game will be fully Verified in a later update, citing that you may encounter some UI issues currently.

The Elder Scrolls Online is available on Steam for $19.99, but you can get it in the Fanatical Summer Superstars bundle with the last 5 chapters, as well as another game, for $15. For $5 less and you get the game + one other great title, this is definitely the way to get it for now!
