One of the few things that I felt really hindered the Steam Deck's launch in general is which countries the device was being sold in. It started off as just the US, Canada, EU, and UK, and then expanded to Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and South Korea, but that's it. There has been lots of talk about which countries want the Deck, and while many have come up, I have seen the bulk of it being in support of coming to Australia. Well, two years after it has been released, the wait is over.

Announced at PAX Australia, the Steam Deck will now be sold there starting in November! This is a fantastic development and I am so glad to hear that the Deck is expanding, even if it has taken some time. According to reports, the Steam Deck models will be sold at:

  • 256GB LCD: $649 AUD
  • 512GB OLED: $899 AUD
  • 1TB OLED: $1,049 AUD

If you are in Australia, you can now wishlist the device before pages go live in mid November. There will be no pre-order period either, and once you order it, it will start shipping!

I, for one, am super excited that Australians will now be able to get their hands on the Steam Deck easily without needing to find some cheaper way to import it. It can be a struggle and quite expensive, so having this alternative is wonderful. Now, Valve just needs to bring the Steam Deck to South America and expand to the Middle-East and South-East Asian countries, and let's hope these shipping lines will stay open for the next generation too.
