Well this one is a bit unexpected, but I’m not complaining one bit! In a random update 2 days ago, Capcom has removed Games for Windows Live (GFWL) from Resident Evil 5:

Resident Evil 5 Update 2/27/23:

  • Removed Games for Windows Live support.
  • Will support local split screen co-op.
  • Some other minor bug fixes.

Before this patch, the game was unplayable and needed a workaround to make it work, but thanks to this update, you can start and play the game without any modifications!

It also mentioned that local split-screen is supported and playable now, which I did test on my Deck! And yes, so far it’s working well. All of this is a great step from Capcom and makes me extremely excited to see.

Resident Evil 5 playable

I still have a little testing to do before declaring it a Best on Deck game, but it plays extremely well on the default settings. The game does start on a 1280x720 resolution, but you can manually change it to 1280x800 and it will fill the entire Deck screen, which is quite nice. Otherwise, around 10W average drain and 60 FPS is what you can expect from this one, though splitscreen will drain battery a little bit more.
