Remedy Entertainment, known for its Alan Wake and Control franchises, and Annapurna, a well-known publisher for narrative titles, have announced a strategic partnership, whereby Annapurna will finance 50% of Control 2's development costs, Remedy Entertainment's much-anticipated sequel to their 2019 hit game. The partnership also means that Annapurna will gain the film and television rights to the Control and Alan Wake franchises.

Remedy will take the lion's share of the game revenue, proportional to the amount they invest themselves, whereas Annapurna will receive a greater share of any revenue generated from the audiovisual productions. Remedy will remain in control of the Alan Wake and Control IPs, there's no acquisition happening here.

Here is what Megan Ellison, CEO of Annapurna, and Tero Virtala, CEO of Remedy Entertainment had to say on the matter:

“The future of storytelling requires seamlessly integrating gaming, film, and television, and this partnership will allow us to explore new ways of bringing these narratives to life, By leveraging Remedy’s innovative narratives and immersive worlds, we can push the boundaries of how stories are told and experienced across mediums."

Megan Ellison, Founder & CEO of Annapurna

“This strategic partnership between Annapurna and Remedy is an important milestone and an exciting opportunity for us. We know Annapurna shares our passion for our IP and the universes we have created. With award-winning movies such as Zero Dark Thirty and games like Stray, Annapurna’s expertise across film, TV, and video games makes them an ideal partner for us.  This agreement will ensure we can develop Control 2 into the best game possible and allows us to move into self-publishing for selected titles and expand our franchises to other mediums,”

Tero Virtala, CEO of Remedy Entertainment

What are your thoughts on this agreement? Do you like the idea that Annapurna is funding the development of Control 2? Alan Wake 2 was funded by Epic Games, which resulted in the game becoming an Epic Games Store exclusive, thus skipping a Steam release, so Remedy's switch to Annapurna could let us see Control 2 release on Steam.
