Update 4/11/25 - The information that pre-orders going live on May 8th is not new information, and we missed that the FAQ had mentioned this already. We apologize for missing this information before posting this article.
Huge news for the Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders in the US region as invites go live with a slight delay on May 8, 2025.
People living in the United Kingdom and Europe have been pre-ordering their Nintendo Switch 2 consoles, games, and accessories from the Nintendo store for the past few days. However, the pre-orders in the United States and Canada were delayed due to President Donald Trump’s tariffs, throwing uncertainty into the market. However, after the tariffs were paused for 90 days, Nintendo of America gave us the date for the Nintendo Switch Pre-Order. The invite for the US and Canada Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order will be on May 8, 2025.
Nintendo shares that the invites will start to go out on May 8 during the frequently asked questions segment on the "Register your interest" page for the Switch 2. They mentioned,
The first batch of invitations will go out starting May 8, 2025, with additional batches of invitation emails sent periodically until purchasing on My Nintendo Store is opened to everyone.

It's worth mentioning that someone ready to buy it from the My Nintendo Store will encounter some challenges, just like those worldwide, and will have to fit in with specific requirements to receive a pre-order invitation:
Priority requirements are as follows: As of 4/2/2025, you must have been the one who purchased any Nintendo Switch Online membership, you must have had any paid Nintendo Switch Online membership for a minimum of 12 months, and you must have opted in to share gameplay data and have at least 50 hours total gameplay hours.

The North American pre-order option is available for less than 30 days before the Switch 2's release date on June 5th, so it will be cutting close. Despite Trump’s tariffs concerns, there’s also speculation that Nintendo will stick with the $450 price tag, and that would be nice for it to stay that way.

I’m pretty sure the Nintendo pre-order lottery system always had that date for US Switch 2 pre-orders direct from Nintendo. I don’t think that’s necessarily the new date pre-orders will go live elsewhere.
Originally, it was set to go live on April 8th or 9th in the US, but the tariffs made Nintendo delay it a day or 2 before they were set to go live to decide what to do next.
This has always been the case, just fyi. This is neither huge news, nor is it to do with the delay... The moment the interest page went live it always said the first wave of invites would go out on May 8th.
Disregard my original comment. I assumed this was an announcement that Nintendo were starting pre-orders on May 8th, but it seems they still haven't got a firm date in mind yet.
