When it comes to figuring out what the critics think of the newest games, there are a couple of places to check out. You can go to the individual websites, which is always nice, but if you just want an overview of how most outlets think of games, you can check out review aggregators like MetaCritic and OpenCritic. However, there is a new review aggregator site on the way, and it's going to be one that looks like it will be very great for outlets, users, and PR reps!
CriticDB is a new website you can use to figure out how the newest games are fairing from all of your favorite outlets, all in one place. Created by Rutledge Daugette, the creator of TechRaptor, this site aims to bridge some gaps that he found with other similar websites while emphasizing bringing new games that gamers may have missed. In his mission statement for CriticDB, he mentions he wants to highlight great work from outlets and games, be a positive place for the industry, and help outlets and PR connect while bringing new games into the spotlight for gamers:
CriticDB’s primary mission is collect previews and reviews from around the web, connecting gamers to new games, and finding ways to help Outlets and PR connect easier. We aim to be a positive force in the industry, highlighting great work and games.
CriticDB Mission Statement
There are some great new features that are included to help gamers, PR, and outlets alike, and highlights ways for users to find new games and new press outlets/websites to check out, see similar games when looking at their page, allowing game pages to show pre and post-release previews for games, as well as reviews, and ways to track and build collections of games.
To help support this endeavor, there are paid subscriptions that users can get to get some extra features. There are free accounts, which allow you to add games to the database if they are missing, link similar games, follow outlets and authors, and partake in the XP system to level up and earn badges. There are two other tiers that cost $2 a month to get rid of banner ads or $5 a month to get rid of banner ads and add user reviews.
And yes, there are already features in the works down the line like adding awards, seeing how many people have favorited or wishlisted a game, community voting, and custom lists.
I am also pleased to announce that we are one of the outlets that will be featured on CriticDB! We are excited to be joining the ranks of other amazing outlets that are here. We can't wait to see how the website will develop, and we are proud to be a part of it.
CriticDB will be officially launching on January 30th in 1 week, and since the website isn't up yet, we will write up another article and link to it as soon as it goes live! However, you can follow CriticDB on Twitter/X, Facebook, and Bluesky now.
