It's super exciting to see Men of War coming back with a full sequel. Men of War 2 looks like it will be continuing the series RTS roots while bringing in new units, locations, campaigns, game modes, mod support, and fully customizable, all with a new glorious visual overhaul. It sounds like a great experience, but it does come with a drawback: it needs to always be online. Even though there is a single-player campaign, the game will require you to be online at all times, though this will be changed after launch.

In a new Steam Community Post that was posted to the Men of War 2 Steam page, the team gave us more details about the launch. This includes extra content offerings, unlock times, and modding support, which sounds awesome. But, one of the points they bring up is the game needs to always be online. This was done primarily to maintain live leaderboards, synchronize rewards you get while playing single-player and co-op content, and prevent cheating.

Luckily, the team has heard our cries to get offline features in, so we should see that after the game releases! This will apply to single-player and mod content that doesn't need a connection to play. This makes complete sense, considering the game has single-player features. This is especially important on the Steam Deck, where the portable nature of the device comes into play. So, having an offline mode will make it significantly more enjoyable to play on Deck.

Even though I wish it was there on launch, I am glad that the developer/publisher recognized the outcry for offline support and, instead of doubling down, understood what the community wanted and put it in. This may be a deciding factor as to whether or not to get it on the Deck, and now, I would lean towards buying it!

Men of War 2 will be available on Steam on May 15.
