I remember when Overwatch took the world of first-person shooters by storm when it was released, and its impact is still felt today. It's a solid first-person shooter, and while the second game didn't have the same effect as the first, it still feels like the goalpost similar games try to reach. There have been a lot of attempts for this, but none have felt like they could come as close as Marvel Rivals can. Taking beloved Marvel heroes and adding in new mechanics like Team-Up Skills and environmental destruction makes it feel more unique than I expected. And it sounds like we will be able to enjoy this on the Steam Deck despite the high requirements.

The developers of Marvel Rivals, NetEase, hosted a Q&A session over on their Discord Server, and it gave the community a chance to ask questions about the upcoming release. During it, someone asked about Steam Deck support, which the team confirmed that there would be! While I wasn't there to hear their answer initially, I did ask the question in chat and had multiple confirmations that the team said there is support, with one individual mentioning that there may be some black screens during loading cutscenes.

While I know the game will have full controller support, I am a bit surprised at the confirmation. The system requirements are quite demanding, insisting on an AMD Ryzen 5 1600X CPU, 16GB RAM, and a GTX 1060 GPU. This is usually out of the Steam Deck's reach, although I have seen some games with this requirement be playable. I don't expect Marvel Rivals to run at above 30 FPS with these requirements, but if NetEase optimized it, we could possibly get to 40 or 45 FPS.

The game fully releases in less than 19 hours from the time of writing, so I will be looking forward to testing it out for myself, but I am hopeful based on what has been said! I have played the game multiple times at different events and I love it. It feels like the first Team-Based PVP shooter to really come close to Overwatch's greatness, and I can see myself playing this for years. It will help a lot if it's Steam Deck compatible, and I really hope it is.
