Starship Troopers fans, the wait is over! On August 1st, Offworld Industries rolled out the second update to the Early Access release of Starship Troopers: Extermination (ST:E). This is their most comprehensive update yet, introducing significant additions to the core gameplay, and unveiling exciting new features like a brand new game mode.
Brace for Impact: Horde Mode is Here
The highlight of the 0.4.0 update is the introduction of Horde Mode. This survival-based combat mode provides players an adrenaline rush like never before, as they are pitted against swarms of enemies that incrementally increase in difficulty. Will you fortify your base and mow down the Bug legions, or will you be overwhelmed?
Horde Mode will unlock as soon as you reach career level two and have 3 difficulty settings: Easy, Normal, and Hard. In it, you will need to defend your base against 10 waves of bugs. Each wave will have two phases: The Build Phase, where you can fortify and repair your defenses, and the Defend Phase, where you will fight off against the bugs.
Measure Your Mettle with Player Profiles & Stats
In addition to Horde Mode, the update offers another significant addition - player profiles and stat tracking. Now, every Deep Space Vanguard can analyze their personal combat metrics, letting them measure their progress and prowess. This addition brings in core stats such as:
- Career Rank and XP
- Total Hours Played
- Total Kills
- Total Revives
- Total Mission Wins
- Kill/Death Ratio
- Win/Loss Ratio
- Favorite Class (most hours played)
- Favorite Weapon (most kills earned)
- Favorite Game Mode (most hours played)
These stats will also detail your proficiency with each weapon type and the specific enemies you've bested more often. This data can be filtered by Game Mode and Class, providing a comprehensive overview of your gameplay performance.
Further Enhancements
Building upon the core features that made ST:E a fan favorite, this update also includes enhancements to existing features, including cooperative gameplay, class progression, and large-scale battles. The game's community-driven development model promises further improvements based on player feedback. The full 1.0 launch is anticipated to deliver an even more intense, engaging, and rewarding gaming experience.
The Early Access edition of Starship Troopers: Extermination is available for $29.99 USD on Steam, though the price is set to increase as more content is added ahead of the full 1.0 launch. The game itself can run quite well on the Steam Deck too, but it does tend to drop in framerate once there are a ton of bugs on the screen.
It's time to suit up, join the Deep Space Vanguard, and stomp some Bugs!
