The highly acclaimed turn-based role-playing game Sea of Stars will get a fantastic update, Dawn of Equinox, from Sabotage Studio on November 12th for PCs. This free update feels like a heartfelt tribute to the passionate community that brought so much joy to Sea of Stars—a game that harkens back to the glory days of classic role-playing games from the '90s.

Dawn of Equinox incorporates several fan-requested features and enhancements, proving that Sabotage Studio values player feedback.

The inclusion of local co-op stands out as a notable addition to this update. The new Co-op Timed Hits combat system allows up to three players to work together to overcome enemies and explore the world. It’s a nice touch, especially for those of us who enjoy sharing these nostalgic experiences with friends.

The combat system has also undergone a major overhaul, known as "Combat 2.0." Mystery Locks are now a part of the game, making it more exciting to face new types of enemies and find out how to break their spells. This system appears to be an excellent method to spice up battles and prevent them from becoming monotonous in my opinion. Combo Points now stay after battles, which allows for some interesting strategy. A balancing pass has been done to keep the game aligned with player expectations, so I'm curious to see how the flow of combat has improved.

You can now skip the prologue and get right into the action with the heroes when they are younger thanks to the revamped prologue. It seems like a more natural and interesting way to begin the journey without the flashback structure. This seems like a smart move, especially for newcomers, as it allows them to dive directly into the world of Sea of Stars without delays.

Along with that, a new cutscene called Paths on Water will showcase a crucial point in the plot. I love how the team is taking an excellent story and making it even better by giving important moments more nuance. Additionally, a new Speedrunner Mode Relic is available to assist players in their pursuit of personal bests, catering to those who enjoy replayability. Dawn of Equinox feels more like a major update than a minor patch because of this and other changes, such as new difficulty presets and improvements to the quality of life.

The addition of Quebecois localization is a nice touch, especially for the French-speaking players who have been waiting for a translation in their regional dialect.

Plus, another free downloadable content (DLC) called Throes of the Watchmaker (see trailer below) is scheduled for the spring of 2025, and Dawn of Equinox comes before it. The upcoming storyline will introduce new characters and environments, and it sounds like an interesting twist with the cursed carnival. It's fantastic to see Sabotage Studio expanding its game with such thoughtful and original content. Check out all the news and updates on their Steam page today!
