If you liked the look of NetEase Games' new 5v5 Hero Shooter FragPunk when it was shown at the Xbox Games Showcase at the weekend, which aims to spice up the genre by allowing you to play cards mid-game to change the game rules and environment, you'll be delighted to know that an extended trailer for the game has been released, and alongside that, the first closed Alpha Test on Steam has been announced to be running from June 27th to July 1st!

Here's a look at that trailer:

If you want a chance to play in the closed alpha, which unfortunately is only available to those living in North America, you can sign up for the alpha testing at the game’s official site: www.fragpunk.com or you can request access to join the playtest on FragPunk's Steam page.

For us lowly peasants outside of America, we may wishlist the game on our platform of choice, which includes Steam.

If you are lucky enough to get into the Alpha Test, here's what you can expect to find in the game:

There will be 70 of the shard cards, which are the cards you can play to alter the gameplay rules, 10 playable heroes with unique abilities, 4 playable maps, and 15 usable weapons, some of which will feature unique abilities. There will also be in-game rewards that have been prepared for players to discover and enjoy during the first closed alpha test.

FragPunk will be Free-2-Play on Steam when it launches. A Closed Alpha test will run for North American players from June 27th-July 1st. You can wishlist the game now.

The game does have controller support, but the system requirements are beyond what the Steam Deck can usually handle, and with it being a competitive shooter, you probably want a stable 60 FPS experience, so I'm doubtful that this game will be playable on the Steam Deck.

What do you think of FragPunk? Will it shake up the genre? Let us know in the comments below!
