Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero is by far one of the best Dragon Ball games I have ever played. I would say I am a little biased since I love the Budokai Tenkaichi series, but it really is just so good. Recently, we reviewed the game and found a way to make it significantly more playable on the Steam Deck, which is amazing, but we still have one little issue. Playing online matches results in getting disconnected from others when trying to start the fight, which is something we will hopefully see a fix for soon, but it seems to not be the full story.
There have been a lot of reports of the game not being playable online and getting an error, but there have also been some reports of the game working online when playing against other Steam Deck users. I have personally been trying to play Sparking Zero online, and I have been getting the same connection errors that others are, but it seems this could be because of my location (I am based in Indonesia and tried to test with someone in the USA). I have had direct conversations with people who are reporting online working, but only when they connect to someone else playing on a Steam Deck.
I can't say yet whether playing with the Engine.ini FPS fix online will work, and I have heard some reports that it wasn't, but I am not sure if it was in the same Deck to Deck multiplayer matches. This definitely warrants more testing, but if you have friends who also have a Steam Deck, you most likely will be able to play online right now.
So, if you want to play now, the best way may be to create private rooms and invite your Steam Deck friends. It isn't the perfect fix, and I would love for regular online play with anybody, but at least this is something we could do to play with our friends.
You can play Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero right now with the Deluxe Edition, which is $99.99 on Steam. If you want to save some money, you can also get the version on Fanatical for $87.99, or the standard version for $61.59!
