Well, I think we all knew a day like this would come sooner or later, but it's finally here. Denuvo, everyone's favorite DRM protection for games, has introduced a new technology to curb people being able to emulate Switch games.
According to Irdeto, the company behind Denuvo, this new tech will integrate automatically into the build toolchain and detects differences in the way the game behaves, comparing it to the behavior it was designed for. Using this, it will be able to tell if the game has been tampered with, which will shut it down.
While this will not affect older Switch titles, this could affect newer ones coming out as it can now be integrated and, if the technology works as presented, will stifle emulating Nintendo Switch titles completely.
While SDHQ does NOT condone piracy in any way, emulation is an important facet of gaming. A lot of older, classic titles would be completely lost in time without emulation. It gives us a way to not only preserve, but actually improve some of these games with updated controls, unlocked framerates, and more.
This is a Denuvo product, so it is very possible it could also be cracked very very quickly, but until a game implements it, we won't know the full extent of what this new technology can do yet.
