I have been truly amazed by the decompilation scene recently. Seeing Nintendo 64 titles get decompiled and recompiled as native PC ports with enhanced features has given new life to these classics. One of the most well-known teams in this space is Harbour Masters, who has given us PC ports of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. Recently, they announced they were working on a port of Star Fox 64, also known as Starship, and today, it has just been released into 1.0!

It's awesome seeing this come to life, and it's pretty easy to set up. You just need to download the port files, grab a copy of Star Fox 64 that is compatible, generate the corresponding files by running a .bat program, and then you are good to go! I can't provide a direct link to a copy of the game, but you can find the specific instructions on how to check to make sure the hash matches up on the Starship Github.

However, this release does not work on the Steam Deck. There is currently only a Windows version due to some last-minute snags with the MacOS and Linux versions, and trying to run with Proton through Steam only brings up errors and crashes the program. I tried both before and after the files were generated with 4 different Proton layers, and none of them worked. Hopefully, the Linux version will be released soon, but it is still coming, no matter what.

I can't wait to try this out on the Steam Deck, but until then, we will have to stick with Windows OS to wait it out. That's good news for those with Windows handhelds like the ROG Ally and Legion Go, or anyone with a Windows desktop PC.
