Ever since the Steam Deck's release, there has been talk and desire from the community to have a new Steam Controller that has all the inputs the Deck has. It would be phenomenal to make the gamepad into a controller, with some minor adjustments here and there. Speculation has been ramping up recently about Valve making a new controller, and it seems this has been further confirmed by a new leak from the new SteamVR drivers.

Spotted by Brad Lynch on Twitter/X (@SadlyItsBradley), a render of the new controller, codenamed Ibex, has been leaked. While the image is a lower resolution and a bit blurry, we can make out some defining details here. We have symmetrical joysticks, two trackpads (with two buttons in the middle), and a Dpad + ABXY buttons with a smaller button next to it. We can also make out the shoulder buttons and triggers on each side.

It is highly likely that this model will change as the controller is probably still in development, but I do have a couple of personal issues with the placement. Depending on how big the controller is, the buttons in the middle of the trackpads will be a bit hard to reach, while the joysticks look like they are too far towards the center. Otherwise, everything else looks great, and I am happy to see trackpads on a controller like this.

We have yet to hear from Valve about Project Ibex or even any confirmation that a controller is in the works, but this seems like there's definitely something going on. Hopefully, we will hear from Valve soon with something more official.
