Late last month, Star Wars: Outlaws was released, and while it is quite fun to play, it also couldn't be played on the Steam Deck. It would be able to load to the menu screen, but if you try to get into a game, it would go to a black screen and freeze up as it was loading. There was no way around this, which is a shame since it would be so cool to play on the Deck with the OLED screen. However, it now seems the game can launch, but maybe you should still avoid trying it.

Over on our Subreddit, Deck Wizard posted a video of himself playing Star Wars: Outlaws on the Steam Deck, and it visibly shows the game running below 30 FPS, having graphical artifacting, and crashing.

In a comment below, he notes these issues:

Star Wars Outlaws is now in-game on the Steam Deck. The performance is horrendous, our controller support is non-existent and the game will crash completely every few minutes where the Steam Deck will black screen, we must hold the power button down for 6-8 seconds to shut the system down.

He also made a full video showcasing the gameplay, which you can watch below:

So, while the game is now technically working on the Steam Deck, it may be best not to play it there. Deck Wizard did note that to get it working, he was using Proton GE 9-13 on SteamOS 3.6 beta and using 4G UMA Buffer. Regardless, I wouldn't say it is worth it. Playing this on the ROG Ally X or more powerful Windows handheld may be the way to go, but it does make me curious how the Orange Pi Neo could handle it.

Star Wars: Outlaws can now be purchased on Ubisoft for $69.99.
