THE FINALS has had quite an intriguing run on the Steam Deck. It worked on the Deck at first, but it seems that with almost every big patch or update it has, compatibility breaks. However, Valve has been on point about getting it back working with Proton updates to make sure it is running again. And it has happened again with the newest update, with Valve updating the Proton Hotfix to make sure it works again.
Noticed by Liam from GamingOnLinux, there were a lot of reports on ProtonDB about the latest update breaking THE FINALS on the Steam Deck, and yesterday, a Proton developer noted that there was a fix that was pushed on Proton Experimental's beta version. And from there, Valve updated the Proton Hotfix layer and changed THE FINALS to default to it. After testing, Liam did confirm that it is indeed working again.
So, we should be safe to play it again, and you can download THE FINALS for free on Steam. It is rated Steam Deck Playable due to small in-game text and needing to bring up the virtual keyboard manually.
