The Octopath Traveler series is continuing soon with the 2nd entry coming out in just 9 days (2/24) and it sounds like this is one we will be able to enjoy on the Steam Deck quite easily!
Octopath Traveler 2 has officially been rated Verified for the Steam Deck! According to Valve, this means that all functionality works with the Steam Deck gamepad, correct controller icons are shown, in-game text is readable, and the default graphics configuration works "well". It does note that the game will require an internet connection for the first-time setup, but after that, there is no notes on needing a continued connection to play the game. The game will feature Denuvo, so make sure you don't change Proton layers often with this one!
Knowing the kind of game Octopath Traveler 2 is, I am not surprised that this is Verified. The game is notably less intensive than other games released by Square, like Forspoken, and its prequel has been reported to work perfectly on the Steam Deck too! Just remember, because a game is Verified doesn't mean it will automatically run as best as it possibly can. Some Verified games do need tweaks to run optimally.
Personally, I can't wait to play this one! I enjoyed the predecessor on my Switch when it came out, so being able to play the sequel on the Steam Deck is really exciting! The game will release on February 24th and can be pre-purchased now for $60.
