ARK: Survival Evolved was a breakout hit when it released and its influence still permeates through the survival genre. So with ARK 2, titled ARK: Survival Ascended, the upcoming sequel, there's a lot on the line here to keep that high standard that they set. So, in terms of game servers, Studio Wildcard is partnering up with Nitrado to provide services to make the servers as perfect as possible.
With this long-running partnership, Nitrado will provide know-how, funding for development of ARK: Survival Ascended, and access to Nitrado's server tools. This will include better mod support with Overwolf integration, SteelShield DDoS Protection, and better server support. With this, Nitrado will be the only commercial provider for rented servers for all of the ARK games. Though, if you are on PC, you will still be able to self-host servers on your own without needing to go through Nitrado.
And yes, this does mean the game will a cross-platform mod system so those playing on PlayStation or Xbox consoles will be able to partake in mods too.
While there is no release date or Steam store page up yet, the game is set to be released in Q3 of this year. I am definitely looking forward to the follow-up and am very curious how it will differ from the original game. And I can't wait to see Vin Diesel go up against dinosaurs. There isn't much information or gameplay shown yet, but the cinematic trailer that debuted at the 2020 Game Awards still looks awesome!
