An Apple Music Decky Plugin Is Being Created By The Community

Despite them not releasing on Decky’s store, there have been a large number of plugins that have really surprised me. These include new ways to integrate third-party games into Game Mode, translate everything you see on screen, and, most recently, make it possible to play and listen to music from Spotify directly in Game Mode. Now, someone is taking that idea and trying to get it working with Apple Music, and that will be great for me.

Over on the Steam Deck subreddit, user jefplusf posted about a plugin they are working on to get Apple Music playable through the Decky Plugin framework. As someone who uses Apple Music way more than Spotify, this would be significant for me. It is still very WIP (work in progress) and work still needs to get done before public release, but the fact that it does and can work is pretty big. There’s no public page for this yet, most likely because the developers still need to find a way not to expose their dev token.

Now, I personally have a problem with generative AI. Not only is it costing creatives their jobs, but it’s also contributing to the slop that we see on websites and even in games. However, I will give props to jefplusf for being upfront about how this plugin is vibe-coded. I have seen a few individuals recently. Try to get away with not disclosing AI-generated content, whether it be in coding or text, so this is a nice change of pace. I would feel better about using this if an actual programmer reviewed the code, but I do feel better when people are upfront about their usage.

I look forward to seeing a public release of the plugin, though, and I can’t wait to try playing songs from my Apple Music library on the Deck directly.
