PlayStation games are some of the best story-driven titles out now, and The Last of Us is one of my favorites. I am overjoyed that these games are coming to PC, with Part 2 due out later this year. However, The Last of Us Part 1 isn't the greatest experience on the Steam Deck. It has gotten slightly better, but I still wouldn't say it is optimal. But with the newest update, it may be getting a little better, and maybe even to the point where it could be enjoyable.

The Last of Us Part 1

In the newest update, which was posted a couple of hours ago, Naughty Dog officially added FSR 3.1 support to the game. This is an upgrade from FSR 3, which was updated into the game last year, and it should result in some minor visual improvements. The big addition to this is Frame Generation, which can theoretically improve your framerate artificially by creating new frames.

There is a caveat to using frame generation, and it requires a solid 60 FPS, or it will have noticeable stutters and input lag, but if we can modify the game enough, we may be able to hit it. I have not tested this myself yet, so this is all in theory, but it's possible if there are enough sacrifices that we could get it.

The rest of the update is relatively small, including some fixes for specific spots where rendering issues could appear, errors when interacting with a specific generator, or a problem with Joel's flashlight that could turn on when inspecting certain artifacts, even though it is in direct sunlight.
