Starlight Re:Volver is the first game from Pahdo Labs, a studio that brought together programmers from Riot Games, WayForward, and Capcom. The game is going to be released on Steam in Early Access in 2025, and if you enjoy rogue-lites and adventures inspired by anime, you might want to consider adding it to your wishlist!

Action, multiplayer co-op, and some pretty crazy exploration are all parts of Starlight Re:Volver. It takes place in the alternate reality of So Mi, sandwiched between the futuristic metropolis of Nishi Island Metropolis (NIM). Players, referred to as "Divers," utilize these enigmatic gadgets called Re:Volvers to traverse between the two realms, seeking loot while, of course, testing the boundaries of reality. I'm always drawn to games with an air of "otherworldly mystery," and this one seems like it will capture the spirit of discovery beautifully.

Starlight Re:Volver lets you personalize your character's appearance and abilities, emphasizing personal flair. Along with that, there's the added bonus of chaotic four-player co-op, where you and your friends can alter the terrain by smashing crystals and performing extremely explosive magic combos. I can already feel the collaboration (and, yes, even some friendly yelling) that will accompany this.

A nod to industry heavyweights like Naoko Takeuchi of Sailor Moon and Rumiko Takahashi of Inuyasha explains why the game features heavy anime influences. Big, bright, colorful designs and an adventure that feels like a tribute to the anime and games of the 90s and 00s are what’s on display in the trailer.

It is the visual style of Starlight Re:Volver that has drawn me in the most. Battles look hyper-stylized and frenetic making them a visual treat to the eye. It would be a visual and auditory delight if you added in that distinctive electro-city pop score. The visual variety will keep things interesting, with settings ranging from space bases to floating islands.

Starlight Re:Volver is still a ways off, but it looks like an exciting adventure that blends the finest parts of old anime and new rogue-lite gameplay. It's scheduled for Early Access in 2025.
