I still remember the days when Rocket League was initially released. All of my friends were loving it, constantly asking me to get in and play matches with them. Admittedly, I sucked at the game, but I still had fun, so I didn't mind. Recently, I have started seeing a lot of comments and reviews about the current state of the game, which features lots of bots and DDOS attackers, which have ruined the experience for a lot of people. Well, developer Psyonix is making a move against these attackers and is introducing Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) into the game.

Starting in April, EAC will be integrated into the game and required for general online play. This includes regular online matches, private matches, and tournaments, and mods will not run when EAC is on. You will still have an option to turn off EAC, which will re-enable mods, but you can't use any online features. Psyonix will also allow some accounts using mods to play online in case-by-case basis for some official tournaments, as some of them use mods for custom graphics and camera controls.
When I saw this announcement, my biggest initial worry was about Steam Deck support. Rocket League is owned by Epic Games, and while EAC does support Linux/Proton, Epic has been pretty against any Linux support. Despite it using EAC and being extremely popular, Fortnite is still not playable on Linux. Luckily, that won't be an issue, as the team has specifically stated that playing on Steam Deck via Proton will be supported with EAC on:
Finally, we know some of you love to play on Steam Deck and on Linux operating systems through apps like Proton, and this will still be supported with Easy Anti-Cheat on.

While it's great to see Steam Deck support continuing, there is some public outcry for this update. With mod support being discontinued online, popular tools like Bakkesmod will no longer be usable. The team did say they are implementing some popular mod-inspired features into the game, like displaying MMR, custom training changes, and an optional flip reset indicator, but it could still be ultimately leaving out some other features players have grown accustomed to.
Still, I am happy to see that support for the Steam Deck is not falling to the wayside as it could have with Fortnite. When it comes to any games that are owned by Epic, I do have that worry. But, I am pleased to say that isn't the case here, and I look forward to picking it up again to see which mod-inspired features are on their way.

Rocket League is only available on Epic Games, but it is free to play. The game can still be played from Steam if you bought it there prior to the move to Epic, and it is rated Verified.
