We got the chance to go hands-on with the Lies of P: Overture DLC at Los Angeles’ historic Paramour Estate. This preview is going to cover what you can expect from this hefty piece of DLC, including new bosses, weapons, and difficulty options, as well as how we expect the DLC will perform on the Steam Deck.

Lies of P: Overture Hands-On Preview & Initial Impressions at the Paramour Estate Event
Stepping into L.A.'s Paramour Estate event, I felt like I’d walked into a living Belle Époque tableau. Chandeliers glittered overhead, marble statues gazed from shadowed alcoves, and a life-size Trinity Room replica—complete with brass gears and cryptic inscriptions—welcomed attendees. While journalists joked about solving a puzzle to enter, the ambient detail alone transported us into Lies of P: Overture’s prequel story. Chronologically, Overture takes place before the climax of the main campaign, slotting into the mid-story of the original game to reveal events leading up to the Puppet Frenzy massacre.
Over cocktails and gourmet tacos, DragonForce’s Herman Li performed metal renditions of “Quixotic” and “Feel,” setting the stage for two action-packed demos:
- Snowy Krat Zoo Demo (60 min): Explore frozen pathways, uncover hidden crawlspaces, and battle mutated animal foes.
- Battle Memories Boss Rush (60 min): After a quick 20-minute strategy huddle, our group faced three new bosses across five difficulty tiers.
New Weapons & Legion Arms in Overture
We got to take a look at some of the new weapons that you'll be able to wield in the Overture DLC, each designed for their own playstyles. Check them out:
- The Gunblade blends ranged and melee into one swift combo, perfect for repositioning.

- Icarus Prosthetic Arm offers versatile midair crowd control with recallable blades.

- The Longbow introduces strategic distance play, essential for challenging encounters.

Boss Rush Mode & Difficulty Options in DLC Preview
We dove into Battle Memories Boss Rush, a free update bundled with the DLC, where each of the three new encounters can be tailored across five difficulty tiers—from gentle practice runs to punishing Masochist-level challenges. Our session began in the greenhouse against Markonis, the Puppeteer of Death, whose dual-phase puppet hammer demanded precise timing. Next came the Two-Face Overseer in a stark laboratory, wielding a tank-encased hammer with brutal swings. Finally, we faced the Anguished Guardian of the Ruins—a four-legged colossus whose sweeping attacks tested every parry and dodge.

Overture also introduces three new difficulty modes: Butterfly’s Guidance (easier), Standard (Legendary Stalker), and Awakened Puppet (harder). Round8 intentionally concealed the exact tweaks behind each selection, ensuring that players can’t simply exploit the system and must adapt their playstyle instead.
Snowy Krat Zoo Preview & New Beastly Foes
Stepping into the Krat Zoo, players find a snow-blanketed menagerie that feels both inviting and menacing. Ice and snow highlight the shattered cages and blood-smeared walkways, setting a chilling backdrop for exploration. Combat-wise, mutated creatures like a cage-snouted polar bear with a freezing breath and a kangaroo mutation with rapid, brutal kicks shattered our comfort zones and demanded entirely new tactics.

Expected Steam Deck Performance Preview for Overture DLC
Based on our Lies of P Steam Deck performance review, we capped gameplay at 45 FPS, used a Medium/Low graphics mix, and limited power to 9 W TDP—yielding a ~95% stable experience with only minor dips during fast transitions. Given Overture runs on the same Unreal Engine 4 foundation and shares the same set of system requirements as the base game, we can reasonably expect that performance will be similar.

Final Thoughts & Verdict on Lies of P: Overture DLC Preview
Lies of P: Overture is more than your standard piece of DLC, boasting:
- 15–20 hours of new prequel content
- An expanded arsenal and mutant beasts
- A Boss rush mode and customizable difficulty
Verdict:
Whether you’re a soulslike purist or a newcomer, Overture is a must-play expansion, ready to challenge and enchant when it launches in Summer 2025. You can wishlist it now on Steam. As Overture is DLC, you will also need the base Lies of P game to play.
